Whats the big Idea? Posted by alangford

Today at some point the group policies were changed to forbid the running of any native code from a flash dive, this includes all instructions which  are executed by windows: exe, bat, vbs and com, this disallows the renaming of an exe to a com which was a plausible fix in the past. This is an inconvenient attempt to stamp out the use of games on the schools network. efficient, yet inconvenient,  this means that  applications which are  often kept on thumb drives for use in a particular class now have to be copied onto the S:/ or C:/ drives before they can be executed. this is a desired effect, but does have ramifications as I stated above  the circumventation for this is to copy all the files to the C or S drives this takes time which makes the copying of large lan games infeasible there for their execution is more difficult-but not impossible. following this change to the group policies I am setting out to write a polymorphic script which will run from the S:/ drive and copy the contents of a folder on your flash drive to a directory where code execution is permitted once the program is terminated the files are removed, this should allow for the running of small lite applications on school terminals.
-at least we know the IT guys are doing their job, now try keeping ahead of me.

Vmware workstation portable Posted by alangford

As proposed in my previous post I was going to endeavour to find a problem with the newly installed Vm drivers. Vmware workstation portable is that problem. This application allows the creations of virtual machines, on any mounted drive including c:/ the machine can use bridged networking to connect directly to the network, violating what is permitted by the school. In regards to what is allowed to be connected to the internal network. Although this does not prevent websense from filtering proxy traffic it could still be a worry, users are still able to use software such as tor from within a vm they have created, to pass through websence’s traffic filter. although Vmware drivers are only installed on a handfull of computers in H block, my aim was only to point out the security problems with installing such drivers.
This was only done as an exercise to show how one could exploit the system

This shall prove interesting Posted by alangford

http://web2.tigs.com.au/blogs/agit/2009/03/01/vmware-virtual-machines-for-students/

being one of the students with permission to run a vm, (or even if i wasn’t) it is my duty as the most computer literate student at tigs to find a way to take advantage of the newly installed vmware components and attach my own virtual machine to the network obtaining admin privileges on a computer on the network , obviously connecting a virtual machine to the network will not give me anything of any interest, what will be interesting are the windows I will be able to pry open with a collection of crowbar like applications. I am informed that I can not currently create virtual machines so my first attempt will be thin VMW and hopefully it takes note of the vmserver currently installed and allows me to bypass the restricted access as in vmware server.

homework bruteforcer Posted by alangford

my next programming side project is going to be a piece of software that does your homework for you! that’s right it will do your homework for you.
the idea is based on the concept of quantum computing, my algorithm for this software should therefore have a time complexity of O(1),
the idea is to give the computer a dictionary file, pull words from the file and have the computer randomly put them in order until it resembles an essay. using this software, coupled with the power of quantum computing you can leave an essay to the minute before and have one generated right before your eyes. Of course if you don’t have access to a quantum computer, you can still use the software but the time complexity will increase a considerable percentage.
